Root Server Network Traffic Policy
If data traffic exceeds 3TB in the last 24 hours, a temporary throttling to 300 MBit/s takes place. The throttling is lifted as soon as the condition no longer applies.
This plan offers speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s up to a limit of 3 TB. Once this limit is reached, speeds will be throttled to 10 Mbit/s for the remainder of the month.
KVM-based root server
All root server resources of our root server generation G12, G11, G10, G9, G8, G7 are dedicated CPU and RAM resources. That means no CPU or RAM resource sharing is done for these dedicated servers.
Additional features such as remotely mounted ISO images, custom images, remote control by Webinterface/API, remote console (VNC), snapshots (copy-on-write), cloud-init, custom routing, and PTR entries for IPv4 and IPv6 can be performed by the user directly. System logs and real-time performance statistics can be monitored in the SCP (Server Control Panel). You can create snapshot backups before operating system updates and reset the system if necessary.

Dedicated server vs. root server
Dedicated server or root server: which one is better? Dedicated server offers dedicated hardware, meaning the user rents a complete server hardware without virtualization. The advantage of a dedicated server is the maximum available hardware performance.
A root server, on the other hand, is a virtual server based on KVM virtualization. The resources allocated to the root server are dedicated, meaning CPU cores and RAM are reserved for your application alone. Therefore, the performance of a root server is comparable to that of a dedicated server in many scenarios.
Root servers bring additional advantages, such as lower costs, easier scaling, snapshot backups, custom ISO installation, cloud-init support, and API management. Compare all options to find the best match for your project.

Root Server vs. vServer (VPS) — Which is the Best Option?
Root Server or vServer (VPS): which one best suits your workload? A Netcup Root Server offers 100% dedicated hardware resources, meaning CPU cores and RAM are reserved exclusively for your server without resource sharing.
A vServer (VPS), on the other hand, utilizes shared host CPU resources among tenants while using enterprise-grade DDR5 RAM and NVMe SSD storage in hardware RAID. The performance of a Netcup VPS is exceptionally high, making it a budget-friendly powerhouse for most web and application server tasks.
The choice depends on your specific performance requirements and budget considerations. VPS plans offer unbeatable value for standard hosting, whereas Root Servers excel at sustained heavy compute operations. Compare both options on netcup.blog to find your ideal server.
